Men's championship to the wire
0000-00-00

It cannot get any closer in the men’s GVA Basewell League with Cotton Leisure Utd and the City Fire Brigade sharing top spot on the table. Both teams are on 16 points following the recent 3-1 win of the Bombies over Cotton Leisure at the Tercentenary Sports Hall. The firemen had an outstanding start taking first blood in a comfortable 25-11 opening set. Cotton Leisure very shaken at their opponents start had great difficulty in getting their act together giving way for the Brigade to take the lead in the second set. But halfway through they managed to organise their play and so began to reduce arrears. The Bombies held well and so managed a tight 25-22 victory in the second set. It all seemed the City Fire Brigade were to walk away with straight set but Cotton Leisure reacted and went on to claim the third by a comfortable 25-16 and all to play for. The forth and final set was a hell of a thriller with the Game going point for point with Cotton Leisure going first to set point. This neutralized by the firemen, saw them collecting the final points to win the set 26-24 and the match 3-1. The other match played on the Tuesday evening saw the Defence Fire and Rescue Service comfortably walking away with a straight win against Laguna Sharks. So we are in for a very close finale to this season’s championship. Their 4 points cushion over Attias and Levy says it all. In their recent encounters Natwest comfortably defeated Pepsi Girls in straight sets as did Attias and Levy against St Michaels Cabin. Pepsi Girls were a great disappointment against the champions considering they took them to the deciding set in their first match and subsequently beat Attias and Levy 3-1. So with the 4 fixtures pending I find it very difficult for Michaels Babes to let this championship go.
